I don't get the part about "until reason is given not to." Just because someone doesn't act appropriately doesn't give me cause to treat them inappropriately. I'm not saying let them steamroll you but why return unkindness for unkindness?

I never said be unkind. Respect can just be how you feel about someone. I may disrespect someone but still be kind to them.

There is a certain amount of respect you should give everyone though by default. Blatant disrespect for everyone is one of the shittiest traits a child can have.

My philosophy is "If I want respect I have to give it first and only then do I demand it from others." And even if I think your religion or politics are stupid you are still deserving of me respecting your basic human dignity. Only truly shitty people like criminals who unapologetically harm others lose that basic level of respect from me.

I whole heartedly agree racism is horrible. However when people are as old as the person in this video is it really that shocking that they still have some of the same values they had when they grew up? However horrible they may be. And I can imagine it being even harder to change your mind on these things the older you get.
